Fueling A Sustainable Future
We don’t just talk about sustainability - we take action, because we believe that creating a better world for generations to come starts today.
Working Toward Zero Waste
We proudly support the sustainability goals of UW-Oshkosh. Here are a few active initiatives.
Robust Recycling
We recycle cardboard, metal, paper, glass, and accepted plastic products, and we recycle uncommon items—such as batteries and printer cartridges—wherever possible.
Collaborative Composting
We work to collect organic materials—including food waste and compostable service items such as napkins and wooden stir sticks—to be composted into useable, nutrient-rich soil amendments.
Proactive Prevention
We use tracking and forecasting tools to proactively identify food waste trends in order to alter our preparation accordingly.
Introducing: Reusable To-Go Boxes!
Choose to reuse, make each container count.
How it Works:
At any given time, you will have one of the following:
- One reusable to-go container
- One credit on your student account
Swipe your student ID at the register for a meal swipe at Blackhawk. If you'd like a reusable container, swipe your ID at the designated reusable iPad.
Enter the dining hall and select your meal options. Please remember that your reusable container must be able to close completely. Enjoy!
How to Return:
When you’re finished with your meal, return your empty container to Blackhawk Dining Commons. Look for the designated REUSABLE iPad near the dish return to scan in your container.
After returning your container, you have two options:
- Take a clean to-go container for immediate use
- Take a carabiner to exchange for another to-go container when you’re ready to carry out again
If you misplace your container, a replacement can be purchased for $8 at Blackhawk Commons.
